Updates: The default software download works fine for HTML5 and responsive web pages as long as you do not re-size elements like images. It's best to use the editor only for editing and styling text and adding small images. An HTML5 Add-In may be available, but is not required unless you are creating new webpages from scratch.

Nvu HTML Editor Download
Nvu [Mozilla] - [Free]
Edits HTML 4.01 and HTML5
Even though it is older software it works well with both HTML 4.01 and HTML5. Available for PC or Mac. Built on the Netscape editor platform.

Windows Notes: Will show a "can not edit page" message for HTML pages with iFrame code, however the error is for the "framed" page and will not affect editing of the main page.

Mac Notes: Before you start editing in NVU, go to menu > Preferences > General Section > Click radio select button "Retain original source formatting".

Before You Start Editing: With any software you choose, check under the software "tools" or "options" and look for an option similar to "Preserve Existing Html" or "Preserve Html Source Code" and make sure to "check" the option to on. This option, if available, should be checked so you will not disturb any existing webpage HTML code.

FTP Software:
Our recommendation for free Mac and PC FTP software for uploading is Filezilla Client (Windows and Mac) or Fetch (Mac). We also recommend CuteFTP for premium FTP software that you can purchase.

Download FilezillaDownload Fetch

Editing with iPage hosting:
If you are using the iPage hosting built in editor, "ipage file manager", uncheck the "rich text editor" in your file manager.
